The International Conference

The International Scientific Conference on Geotechnical Engineering and Energy Science was held in Baghdad, Iraq, for the period from 17th to 19th of May, 2023, in accordance with the memorandum of cooperation signed between Mashreq University and Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University in the Russian Federation, and the Iraqi Soil Mechanics Association.
The University of Mashreq is one of the main sponsors and organizers of the conference.
At the opening session, the representative of Mashreq University welcomed the attendees as well as the President of Mashreq University Dr. Abd Al-Jabber Abdual Khadir who sent his regards and wishes for the graduates to have a bright future, and for the success of Mashreq University in supporting scientific research and researchers as one of its main goals.
The conference opened with verses from the Holy Quran, after which the Iraqi national anthem and the Russian national anthem were played, and a minute of silence was dedicated to read Surat Al-Fatihah in commemoration of the martyrs of Iraq.
In the opening session of the conference, which was held in Al-Hakim Hall - Oyoon Baghdad complex, four lectures were presented by professors of St. Petersburg University and the President of the Iraqi Soil Mechanics Society on the latest modern technologies used in the fields of civil engineering.

The conference activities were hosted for the second day by Mashreq University in six halls that are well-equipped with smart boards and other utilities. The research papers presented at the conference were discussed in various civil engineering disciplines.

 
The Russian delegation and the participants in the conference praised the vision of Mashreq University and those in charge, the distinguished architecture, modern buildings, facilities, of the university, as well as the distinguished professors and staff, in addition to the good hospitality and organization which contributed to the success of the conference.
The number of research papers submitted to the conference were a 232 submitted by 289 researchers, and the number of rejected research papers were 90.
A total of 142 papers were accepted, presented at the conference, and will be published after final alterations in the following journals.
The invitation was made by the engineer Ikhlas Jawad, (the project manager) on the third day of the conference which took place at the site of the Iraqi Central Bank building (designed by the late innovator Zaha Hadid), during which the delegation of St. Petersburg University was briefed on the progress of work on the project, and the delegation praised the efforts made to complete it in a manner that meets the extraordinary vision. 
More than 1,780 researchers from various countries, including Russia, Turkey, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Iraqi researchers from various provinces and the Kurdistan region followed up with the conference on social media. 
The conference was attended by more than 250 researchers from various Iraqi and foreign universities.
